Last Thursday I was back in North Wales, this time at the North Wales Inn, Rhyl. Top jockey Vidar got us there in just over an hour.
Small boozer, the tiniest stage in the whole world EVER and a worry that perhaps we shouldn’t have come. 10 minutes later I’d signed 2 autographs before we’d even unpacked our guitars. Was Jeremy Beadle gonna jump out on us?
Turns out there’d been a feature in the local North Wales newspaper and people had turned out in force to see me. Well, I say in force, but I mean about 20… but still. Then a big fella comes up to me and says, un-nerving me, ‘You know me.’ It’s my cousin Steven who i’ve not seen since my Aunty Hilda’s do years and years ago. Unexpected all around really.
I performed for just under an hour and half, Chris played about two thirds of the set and I had a good chat inbetween songs too, really enjoying myself.
There are occaisions when what you’re doing enters into a kind of zen time state and takes damned good care of itself, so I can’t remember my er, banter, but can assure you I was funny, wise and interesting…….
Sold out of Cds afterwards and had a good chat with everyone. Great night and a reminder that publicity is the mother of attendance or something like that.
Return visit in December I think.
